Cricut Art

In an effort to use my cricut more I decided to make some very simple art for my craft room. Pretty simple, but I like it. I also ordered some vinyl so I will be testing that out this coming week. How do you like?

It's hard to tell, but this is a camera. I love how the paper goes with the frame.

Aren't my pictures looking a little better? I'm off to buy a poster board to use a a backdrop.

Inked Babies?!?!

This morning while driving to work I heard the craziest thing that I just had to share. Quite frequently The Kane Show in DC has listeners call them for their advice on random dilemmas. They then let listeners call in and comment. Most of the time I hate this and I think there should be an IQ requirement to be allowed on the radio and it causes me to lose a little of my faith in humanity. Today was totally one of those days.

A mom named Emily called in to ask Kane to tell her family to "back off an let her do what she wants with her kid." She and her husband have a daughter who is about to turn one. To commemorate her first birthday they want to get her a tattoo of a heart on her ankle. Obviously, the DJ and all of the callers were totally appalled by this. The mom's defense was that it is no different from getting your baby's ears pierced or circumcising your son? Do you agree with this?

Personally, I have a tattoo and it did not feel good. Also, when I chose my tattoo I picked something personal to me and I would not have been cool with my mom picking out something permanent to have on my body. Piercings are temporary and circumcisions are mostly for health reasons or religious from my understanding. I have a hard time watching my nieces and nephews get shots let alone subjecting them to a 30 minute long tattoo session.

The caller started going on and on about how it you look at the history of tattoos they are a tribal bonding experience.. I know this is true and I totally respect it. I took Polynesian Literature people! But many of these cultural traditions have bee proven to be unhealthy and sometimes cruel such as neck lengthening and head boarding.

Sadly, I looked it up and this is TOTALLY LEGAL. As long as the guardian consents there is no minimum age for a tattoo! Do you think this will be a trend? Should the law be changed?

Home Rehab

We have been putting a lot of time and energy into some projects around the house and I feel like we are getting nowhere fast. We are attempting to give our basement a facelift. We aren't ready for the full redo yet, but there is PLENTY of room for improvement without dropping the big bucks. We aren't done yet, but I wanted to show you what we are up against in order to excuse my flaky blogging as of late.

Exhibit A: See this lovely yellowish outdoor siding? This is on our basement walls. This stuff ain't cheap and it ain't pretty so I have no idea what caused someone to stick this all over the walls. We have primed this and just need to paint. Then we need to paint all the trim and there is a crapload of it!

Here are some of the paint swatches on the walls. We have gone with a really pale blue color shown in the middle. We were afraid to leave everything white and make it seem super sterile. The new plan is a beachy airy theme.

Here is the hubs with the rag he used to scrub all the walls because they were pretty funky.

Here is the ugly 80's closet door.

Fancy fake gold outlet covers.

And this little gem. Yes, that is a porch light in the basement. Nice huh? So as you can see we are busy. We still need to do the final coat of paint which will take a while because we have to brush each individual crack by hand, change the light, change the closet door, hang a mirror to bring in some seriously needed light, and set my craft area back up! So yeah no sweat. NOT.

What endless projects do you have going on?

Dollar Store Decor

One of my coworkers and I headed to the dollar store for some cheap office party decorations. We came across these little house shaped photo frames.

Kind of blah, but I liked the shape. So I offered to take them home and cute them up a little bit.

So I did a little priming and spray painting ad finished them off with a little heart!

Voila! Little doghouse photo frame with a Baby Rolly! Pretty cute for a buck!
