Pet obesity is becoming a huge problem in the U.S. It's really tough to deny those sad little eyes a tasty treat. Even if you want to feed them the right thing and the right amount can be really tough to figure out. Those little charts on the side of the food bag have huge variances. For example for my dog it says he should be eating anywhere from 2.75 cups to 3.75 cups per day. That's a huge difference!
The Associate for Pet Obesity Prevention has a great website for helping you determine how much you should be feeding your furry friends. On the upper right hand side of the homepage you can click Food and Calories then follow the prompts to determine how much you should be feeding your pet.
My vet was able to tell me that based on Rolly's height, weight, and age he needs to take in 1050 calories per day. So I used the chart found on the site to look up Rolly's food and I can see that it is 381 Calories per cup. So 1050/381= 2.75 cups per day. Since Rolly turns 1 next month and he now only eats 2 times per day. Therefore, he should have about 1 and 1/3 cups at each meal.
